February at Voodoo!

Posted in Uncategorized on February 6th, 2009 by admin

Wow, we have been busy! February will have 3 Saturday nights of our normal Winter Jazz Series, plus Voodoo ‘Jazz Fest’ on Saturday the 21st! ‘Jazz Fest’ is a part of our ‘FIve Days of Carnival’, which concludes on Mardi Gras, Tuesday the 24th!

What else is happening you ask?

  • Monday the 9th is Lunacy, so look out West Ashley! In addition to all the usual craziness, we’ll have the ‘Bizarro Girls’ burlesque act for your entertainment.
  • Our Valentine’s Night Jazz show is Elise Testone. Elise blew the roof off the place when she performed last summer, and packed Voodoo full of people who already knew how good she was! You’ll want to show up early for a seat in the lounge ’cause this is one show that will be packed to the rafters!
  • On Sunday the 15th, Charleston’s Roller Derby Girls, ‘The Lowcountry High-Rollers’ will be hosting a fund-raising bingo happy hour.
  • We kick off Carnival on Friday the 20th with a Happy Hour Dixieland Band Parade around Avondale point. You are not gonna wanna miss this!
  • Saturday the 21st- Jazz Fest. Live music from 7pm ’til close.
  • Sunday the 22nd- the rebirth of Marie Laveau’s Brunch at Voodoo from 11:30 to 2:30 (or until we run out of food!)
  • Monday the 22nd- Voodoo Art Show and Benefit: A great cocktail of local artists and performers will have their work on display and for sale. Drink specials and a silent auction will help raise money for our favorite charity,  The St. Bernard Project- dedicated volunteers working tirelessly to rebuild a community that is still suffering from the effects of Hurricane Katrina.
  • Tuesday the 23rd- Mardi Gras Bash!! Beads, beads, beads! Food and drink specials, live music, and a giant-ass party! You can’t handle what what we’ll be throwing down!
  • Just as in the Big Easy, our bar will be closed the day after Mardi Gras- (Ash Wednesday) – Go to mass and repent, you sinners.

OK, we’ve got a couple of great events coming up in the next week! Saturday January 10th is the kickoff of the Winter Jazz Series featuring The Emanon Duo-

The Emanon Duo features Quentin Baxter on Drums with Kebbi Williams on Saxophone, but don’t let the word “duo” lure you into any false sense of quiet and sedate, this duo will shake you in your seats!

For those of you who haven’t seen Quentin at Voodoo yet, every time he performs he blows the doors off! This opening night will be no exception. Tickets are still only $5, come early to get a seat in the lounge and enjoy some dinner, wine, and cocktails! Come late and you can stand in the bar and try to peek in! Show starts at 9:00pm, and will be the hottest ticket in West Ashley, or anywhere else in Charleston!

And as if that weren’t enough, Monday January 12th is our monthly Lunacy Party! We’re bringing back some of our favorite entertainers for you: The Sexy, Glow-in-the-Dark Hula Hoop girls, the Capoeira Dancers (that’s the awesome martial arts/breakdancing spectacle), and of course, DJ D-Rock and Guests, and Johnny Pundt bodypainting.  What I really want is for more folks to be stop being spectators and become a part of the event, so If you show up painted or in costume, we’ll let you in for free!

Party Party Party!

Posted in Events on December 17th, 2008 by admin

Well, it’s almost that time again. The stockings are hung, the tree is lit, and we are ready for family, food, drinks, sibling rivalry, hurt feelings, dashed expectations and all the other things that come with the holidays!

Caroline has prepared a pair of excellent X-Mas cocktails: The Voodoo Eggnog, made with cinnamon and vanilla infused American Honey bourbon, and The Gingerbread Cookie, whipped up with kahlua and gingerbread schnapps- delicious!

So, you may ask, what’s Voodoo doing for the Holidays? We will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so we can spend some quality time with those we love (we love you guys, we just don’t want you in our living room in your PJ’s on Christmas morning!) We will be hosting our Fourth Annual New Year’s Eve Bash this year- there will be noise makers, a big TV to watch the ball drop, and free bubbly and kisses at the stroke of midnight- as always, no cover.  We will not be coming to work on New Year’s Day and we hope we don’t feel as bad as we did last year!

Other cool stuff:

I love my IPod Mondays- your opportunity to show everyone how great your musical taste is!  Also, look for our Winter Jazz series on Saturday nights, starting mid-January.

We also want to let you know that Voodoo is making a stand amidst the faltering economy and ever increasing food prices: That’s right, you can still get dinner and a beer for less than $10, or around $5 at Happy Hour!

We hope to see you all soon, and have a happy holiday!
